Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By creating an account on StarDust or using the StarDust mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and StarDust ("we," "us," or "our"), available at stardustmeet.com. Please read them carefully.


2. Eligibility

To use StarDust, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age. StarDust is a dating and community platform intended exclusively for adults. Age verification is required during registration, and we may request additional verification at any time.
  • Be legally able to enter into a binding contract with StarDust.
  • Not be a person barred from using the Service under the laws of your jurisdiction.
  • Not have been previously banned or removed from the Service for violating these Terms.
  • Comply with all applicable local, state, national, and international laws and regulations.

By using StarDust, you represent and warrant that you meet all eligibility requirements. If we discover that you do not meet these requirements, we may terminate your account immediately.


3. Your Account

3.1 Account Creation

To access the Service, you must create an account by providing accurate and complete registration information, including a valid email address and your date of birth. You may also register using a supported authentication provider (such as Google or Apple Sign-In via Firebase).

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us immediately at info@stardustmeet.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account

We will never ask you for your password via email or any other communication channel.

3.3 One Account Per Person

Each person may maintain only one StarDust account. Creating multiple accounts is a violation of these Terms and may result in the termination of all associated accounts.

3.4 Account Accuracy

You agree to keep your account information accurate and up to date. This is particularly important for your Match profile, which represents your real identity. Providing false or misleading information in your Match profile (such as a fake name, age, or photos that are not of you) is a violation of these Terms.


4. The StarDust Service

4.1 Match (Dating)

Match is StarDust's dating experience. In Match, you create a profile using your real identity (real name, real photos, accurate age and personal details). Match connects you with other users based on your preferences and location.

Match requires truthful representation. Your Match profile must accurately represent who you are. Misrepresentation, including using someone else's photos, providing a false name, or misrepresenting your age, is strictly prohibited.

4.2 Spaces (Community)

Spaces is StarDust's anonymous community experience. In Spaces, you participate in interest-based communities using anonymous personas (pseudonyms and avatars). Your real identity is not revealed in Spaces.

Spaces allows pseudonymous participation. You may use usernames and avatars that do not reveal your real identity. However, anonymity does not excuse harmful behavior — all community guidelines apply equally in Spaces.

4.3 Data Separation

Match and Spaces are architecturally separated. Your real identity in Match is never linked to your anonymous personas in Spaces. This separation is enforced at the technical level through isolated databases and access-restricted APIs.

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to discover or reveal other users' real identities from their Spaces activity
  • Attempt to discover or reveal other users' Spaces personas from their Match profiles
  • Share information from one context (Match or Spaces) in the other to identify someone

Violating this separation undermines the trust and safety of the platform and is a serious violation of these Terms.

4.4 End-to-End Encryption

Private messages in Match are protected by end-to-end encryption using the Signal Protocol (Double Ratchet Algorithm). This means:

  • Messages are encrypted on your device before being sent and can only be decrypted by the intended recipient
  • StarDust cannot read, access, or disclose the content of your encrypted messages
  • Encryption keys are generated and stored on your device, not on our servers
  • Each conversation uses unique, per-message encryption keys with forward secrecy

Important: While we cannot access message content, metadata (such as sender, recipient, and timestamp) is stored to operate the Service. End-to-end encryption does not exempt users from complying with these Terms or applicable law.


5. Acceptable Use

5.1 General Conduct

You agree to use StarDust in a respectful, lawful, and considerate manner. The following conduct is prohibited on StarDust:

Harassment and Abuse

  • Threatening, intimidating, bullying, or harassing other users
  • Stalking or unwanted persistent contact after being asked to stop
  • Hate speech, slurs, or discriminatory language based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic
  • Doxxing or sharing another user's personal information without their consent

Dishonesty and Fraud

  • Creating fake or misleading profiles in Match
  • Impersonating another person or entity
  • Using StarDust for scams, phishing, or financial fraud
  • Catfishing (pretending to be someone you are not in dating interactions)

Illegal Activity

  • Using StarDust for any illegal purpose
  • Soliciting or facilitating illegal activities
  • Distributing controlled substances or illegal goods
  • Engaging in or promoting human trafficking or exploitation

Harmful Content

  • Posting content depicting violence, gore, or self-harm
  • Posting content that exploits or endangers minors in any way — this is a zero-tolerance policy enforced everywhere on the platform, including encrypted conversations (see Section 5.3)
  • Distributing malware, viruses, or other harmful software
  • Spam, unsolicited advertising, or commercial solicitation

Adult Content Policy (Context-Specific)

StarDust is an adults-only platform (18+). Our policy on sexually explicit or adult content varies by context:

In all contexts, a content filter is available. When enabled (the default), adult content is blurred and requires an explicit tap to reveal. You can adjust your NSFW filter preference in Settings > Privacy > Content Filtering.

Your responsibility: In closed and private groups, you are solely responsible for the content you share. By participating in these groups, you acknowledge that other members may share adult content that is legal but may be explicit. StarDust does not moderate legal adult content in private contexts, but all other rules (no illegal content, no CSAM, no harassment) apply without exception.

Dating-Specific Safety

  • Sending unsolicited sexually explicit messages or images
  • Pressuring other users for personal information, phone numbers, or in-person meetings
  • Using the platform for escort services, prostitution, or sexual solicitation
  • Engaging in "love bombing" or manipulative relationship tactics
  • Misrepresenting relationship intentions (e.g., seeking casual encounters on a dating-focused platform without disclosure)

Platform Abuse

  • Attempting to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service
  • Interfering with or disrupting the Service or its infrastructure
  • Circumventing security measures, rate limits, or access controls
  • Scraping, crawling, or automated data collection without authorization
  • Creating accounts for the purpose of violating these Terms

5.2 Reporting Violations

If you encounter content or behavior that violates these Terms, please report it using the in-app reporting tools or by contacting us at support@stardustmeet.com.

Report Categories: Fake profile, inappropriate photos, harassment, scam, underage user, inappropriate content, false information, violence, hate speech, and other.

Our Response: We review all reports and take appropriate action based on severity:

We aim to review all reports within 24 hours. Reports involving minors or imminent safety threats are prioritized.

5.3 Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) — Zero Tolerance

StarDust maintains an absolute zero-tolerance policy for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any content that exploits or endangers minors. This applies to every context on the platform without exception, including end-to-end encrypted conversations.

  • For public contexts (Spaces, group chats), uploaded images are scanned server-side against known CSAM hash databases
  • For end-to-end encrypted contexts (Match DMs, private groups), on-device scanning occurs before encryption to ensure compliance without compromising message privacy
  • Detected CSAM is automatically blocked and reported to the relevant authorities (e.g., Europol, national law enforcement, and/or NCMEC in the United States) as required by law
  • Accounts involved in CSAM are immediately and permanently banned
  • We cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations

5.4 Content Moderation

StarDust uses a multi-layered content moderation system to maintain platform safety:

  • Automated detection: Image classification (for NSFW and CSAM detection on unencrypted content) and keyword-based text filtering for illegal content
  • AI-assisted review: AI models assist in contextual content classification for text and images that require nuanced assessment
  • Human review: Trained moderators review flagged content, borderline cases, and all user reports. Decisions on account suspension or banning are made by humans, not automated systems

Moderation is applied differently depending on context (see the Adult Content Policy table in Section 5.1). We do not read or moderate the content of end-to-end encrypted messages, except through the on-device CSAM scanning described in Section 5.3.


6. Content

6.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of the content you create and share on StarDust, including photos, text, messages, posts, and comments ("Your Content").

By posting or sharing Your Content on StarDust, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to use, display, reproduce, distribute, and modify Your Content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. This license exists only for as long as your content is on the platform.

When you delete Your Content or your account, we will remove Your Content from our systems in accordance with our data retention policy and Privacy Policy.

6.2 Content Standards

All content shared on StarDust must comply with these Terms and our community guidelines. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these standards without prior notice.

6.3 Encrypted Content

Content sent through end-to-end encrypted channels (Match DMs) is not accessible to StarDust. You are solely responsible for the content you send in encrypted conversations. We cannot recover, produce, or disclose encrypted message content, even in response to legal process, because we do not possess the decryption keys. Exception: on-device CSAM scanning (Section 5.3) may generate reports to authorities as required by law.

6.4 No Endorsement

We do not endorse, verify, or guarantee the accuracy of any content posted by users. You understand that by using the Service, you may be exposed to content that is inaccurate, offensive, or otherwise objectionable. Your interactions with other users and any reliance on user-generated content are at your own risk.


7. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

Alpha/Beta pricing: StarDust Meet is currently in an alpha/beta phase. All prices, subscription tiers and in-app purchase options are subject to change as we refine the product. Pricing shown in the app at the time of purchase is the price that applies to that transaction. We may adjust prices, introduce new tiers or retire existing ones without prior notice.

7.1 Available Purchases

StarDust offers the following optional in-app purchases to enhance your experience:

7.2 Payment Processing

All purchases are processed through Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). By making a purchase, you agree to the payment terms of the applicable app store. We do not collect or store your payment card information.

7.3 Subscriptions

Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. You will be charged the then-current subscription price at renewal.

Cancellation: You can cancel your subscription at any time through your device's app store settings (Apple App Store or Google Play Store). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you will continue to have access to premium features until then.

No partial refunds: We do not provide refunds for partial subscription periods. If you cancel mid-period, you retain access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

7.4 Refunds

Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google in accordance with their respective refund policies. We do not process refunds directly. To request a refund, contact Apple Support or Google Play Support.

7.5 Free Features

The core StarDust experience is available for free. Paid subscriptions unlock additional features and enhanced functionality but are not required to use the Service.


8. Identity Verification

StarDust offers an optional Identity Verification feature ($0.99) that allows you to verify your identity and receive a verified badge on your Match profile. By using this feature:

  • You consent to the identity verification process
  • You acknowledge that the verified badge applies only to your Match profile
  • You understand that verification confirms identity, not character or intentions
  • You acknowledge that verification only confirms that the selfie matches the profile photo at the time of verification, and does not constitute an endorsement, background check, or guarantee of the user's character, criminal history, or intentions
  • You agree to provide truthful and accurate information during verification

A verified badge does not guarantee the safety of any interaction. Always exercise your own judgment when meeting or communicating with other users.


9. Safety

9.1 Your Safety

While we implement safety measures including content moderation, reporting tools, and blocking features, we cannot guarantee your safety on or off the platform. StarDust is a tool for connecting with other people, and interactions carry inherent risks.

We strongly recommend:

  • Meeting new people in public places
  • Informing a friend or family member of your plans
  • Trusting your instincts — if something feels wrong, leave
  • Never sharing financial information with other users
  • Reporting any suspicious or threatening behavior immediately

9.2 Safety Reports

When you report another user or content, we retain safety reports for 7 years as required by law. If your account is deleted, reports you have filed are anonymized but preserved to maintain platform safety.

9.3 Blocking and Unblocking

You can block any user at any time through their profile or from a conversation. When you block a user:

  • They cannot contact you, view your profile, or interact with your content
  • Any existing conversations are hidden from both parties
  • They will not appear in your Match recommendations
  • You will not appear in their Match recommendations
  • Blocks are context-aware (Match and Spaces are handled independently due to data separation)

You can unblock a user at any time through Settings > Privacy > Blocked Users. Unblocking restores visibility but does not restore deleted conversations.

We do not notify users when they are blocked or unblocked.

9.4 Health and Safety

StarDust is a platform for meeting new people. We encourage all users to prioritize their physical and emotional health when using the Service:

  • STI awareness: If you choose to meet someone in person, we encourage you to have open conversations about sexual health. StarDust is not responsible for health outcomes from in-person meetings.
  • Emotional wellbeing: Online dating can be emotionally challenging. If you experience negative impacts on your mental health, we encourage you to take breaks and seek support.
  • Emergency resources: If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988 in the US) or your local equivalent.

10. Intellectual Property

10.1 Our Intellectual Property

The StarDust name, logo, design, features, and functionality are owned by StarDust and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not use our intellectual property without our prior written consent.

10.2 Feedback

If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Service ("Feedback"), you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, modify, and incorporate the Feedback into the Service without any obligation to you.


11. Third-Party Services

The Service may integrate with or link to third-party services, including but not limited to:

  • Firebase (authentication, notifications)
  • Apple App Store and Google Play (purchases)
  • Sentry (error monitoring)
  • SendGrid (email delivery)
  • Google Maps (location services)
  • OneSignal (push notification delivery)
  • AWS S3 (file and image storage)
  • Google Cloud Vision (image content classification)
  • Anthropic Claude (AI-assisted content moderation)
  • Voyage AI (AI-powered semantic matching for Pro subscribers)
  • AWS Rekognition (photo verification face comparison)

Your use of third-party services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.


12. Termination and Suspension

12.1 Termination by You

You can delete your account at any time through Settings > Account Actions > Delete Account in the app. Account deletion follows the process described in our Privacy Policy, including a 30-day grace period before permanent deletion.

12.2 Termination by Us

We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if:

  • You violate these Terms or our community guidelines
  • We reasonably believe your conduct poses a risk to other users or the platform
  • We are required to do so by law
  • Your account has been inactive for more than two (2) years. You will receive an email notification at least 30 days before any inactivity-based deletion.
  • We discontinue the Service (with reasonable notice)

12.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the Service ceases immediately
  • Active subscriptions may be cancelled (refunds subject to app store policies)
  • Your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy
  • Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including Sections 6.1 (Content License), 6.3 (Encrypted Content), 10 (Intellectual Property), 13 (Limitation of Liability), and 14 (Dispute Resolution)

13. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

13.1 Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE
  • ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED
  • THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM USING THE SERVICE WILL BE ACCURATE OR RELIABLE
  • THE QUALITY OF THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS

WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL FIND A MATCH, MAKE CONNECTIONS, OR ACHIEVE ANY PARTICULAR OUTCOME FROM USING THE SERVICE.

13.2 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, StarDust Meet AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

  • YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE
  • ANY CONDUCT OR CONTENT OF OTHER USERS
  • UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO OR ALTERATION OF YOUR DATA
  • ANY INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER USERS, WHETHER ONLINE OR OFFLINE

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) $100 USD.

13.3 Assumption of Risk

YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT StarDust Meet IS A PLATFORM FOR CONNECTING WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND THAT INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER USERS CARRY INHERENT RISKS. YOU VOLUNTARILY ASSUME ALL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH USING THE SERVICE AND INTERACTING WITH OTHER USERS, WHETHER ONLINE OR IN PERSON.


14. Dispute Resolution

14.1 Informal Resolution

Before filing any formal legal action, you agree to attempt to resolve the dispute informally by contacting us at info@stardustmeet.com. We will attempt to resolve the dispute within 30 days.

14.2 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Sweden, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. If you are a consumer residing in the European Union, you also enjoy the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.

14.3 Arbitration Agreement

Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that is not resolved informally shall be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration shall be conducted in English.

Class Action Waiver: You agree that any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted only on an individual basis and not in a class, consolidated, or representative action. If this waiver is found unenforceable, the entirety of this arbitration agreement shall be void.

14.4 EU Residents

If you reside in the European Union, the Arbitration Agreement and Class Action Waiver above do not apply to you. Instead, any disputes may be resolved in the competent courts of your country of residence. You may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

14.5 Exceptions

The following claims are exempt from the arbitration agreement:

  • Claims that may be brought in small claims court
  • Claims related to intellectual property infringement
  • Claims for injunctive or equitable relief

14.6 Opt-Out

You may opt out of the arbitration agreement by sending written notice to info@stardustmeet.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. Your notice must include your name, email address associated with your account, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out of the arbitration agreement.


15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless StarDust and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Your Content
  • Your interactions with other users

16. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes:

  • We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of these Terms
  • We will notify you through an in-app notification
  • For significant changes, we will provide at least 30 days' notice before the changes take effect
  • Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms

If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and delete your account.


17. General Provisions

17.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy (available at stardustmeet.com/privacy) and any other policies referenced herein, constitute the entire agreement between you and StarDust regarding the Service.

17.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

17.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision.

17.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.

17.5 No Third-Party Beneficiaries

These Terms do not create any third-party beneficiary rights.

17.6 Force Majeure

We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations under these Terms due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, war, terrorism, pandemics, labor disputes, government actions, or failures of third-party services or infrastructure.
